  • BIBA attended BIPAR meeting in Tel Aviv to represent members on European issues

  • Encouraged members to participate in FSA survey about its smaller firms website – click here
  • Met with HM Revenue & Customs to discuss IPT for tour operators’ insurance contracts
  • Met with scheme provider, Northern Marine Underwriters, to discuss the new Rotterdam Rules in relation to marine insurance
  • Issued an uninsured driving technical briefing for members – Click here and a guide to claims notifications technical briefing – Click here
  • Held its Trade Credit Focus group committee meeting
  • Liaised with the Department for Transport  (DFT) and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) regarding continuous insurance enforcement
  • Appeared in The Guardian, The Independent, Daily Express and on channel 4.com regarding IPT and young drivers
  • Responded to the Law Commission’s consultation on damages for late payment

  • Held a regional compliance forum in Plymouth

  • BIBA is to present to the the All Party Parliamentary Group on Insurance and Financial Services on issues affecting members
  • BIBA met with the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) and the BIBA motor panel to discuss motor insurance issues
  • BIBA hosted a CIFAS presentation on anti-fraud

  

BIBA has also:

  • Promoted brokers on BBC Radio 4 regarding the volcanic ash crisis – click here
  • Met with the Security System Alarms Inspection Board (SSAIB) to discuss insurance matters
  • Held its quarterly Regulatory Working Party meeting
  • Issued a regulatory note for members – FSA set to launch new online system for applications processes
  • Began the process of writing to the new coalition Government to seek meetings as part of the new lobbying campaign
  • Instigated discussions with the Northern Ireland Consumer Council about insurance issues affecting consumers in Northern Ireland

This week’s top issues:

  • BIBA 2010 record breaking attendance  – more than 4,000 attendees including 2,300 broker/intermediaries click here
  • BIBA met with HM Treasury and attended the insurance sector liaison event
  • BIBA met with the FSA for further meeting on the fundamental review of FSCS

  

BIBA has also:

  • Met with the Federation of Independent Practitioner Organisations (FIPO), the organisation which represents surgeons and consultants
  • Recorded an interview on BBC Radio You and Yours to discuss the recent volcanic eruption
  • Responded to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) on the IMF proposal ‘A fair and substantial contribution by the financial sector’
     
  • Held a compliance forum in Glasgow
  • Written to the new transport minister encouraging support for continuous insurance enforcement 
  • Held its board meeting to discuss member issues
  • Held discussions with Law Commission on specific aspects of insurance contract law relating to brokers’ liability for premiums
  • Met with the Serious Organised Crime Agency

  • BIBA attended BIPAR (the European Federation of insurance intermediaries) Directors’ Committee meeting in Stockholm to represent UK brokers in Europe
  • BIBA already has over 2000 brokers registered for the BIBA Conference next week at ExCel London
  • New improvements and opportunities on the online Find a Broker search – click here

 

BIBA has also:

  • Met with the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), the Financial Services Association (FSA) and Association of British Insurers (ABI) to discuss the volcanic ash crisis
  • Held its General Insurance Brokers’ Committee meeting to discuss member issues
  • Taken part in a round table Power Hour at Insurance Age to discuss broker liability for risk placement
  •  Released 4,000 additional questions doubling its question bank on broker ASSESS – Why not try it for yourself?
  • Worked with members to answer insurance questions and promote brokers for the BBC
  • Met with the Chief Executive of the Law Society to discuss professional indemnity insurance
  • Met with official delegation from the Nigerian Council of registered insurance brokers
  • Presented to delegation from BIBA and CII Scotland
